WinUndelete Support - Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  •  What are the system requirements for WinUndelete?

To use WinUndelete, you need Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, or 2003. The software does not work on a Macintosh or the Linux/Unix platforms.

  •  How to install the program on my computer?

If you download the direct-use package, no installation is required. You may copy the direct-use package, which contains only one executable file, winundelete2.exe, to a removable disk, such as a floppy disk. You then double-click winundelete2.exe and start your recovery. Otherwise, if you download installation package, you need to install it on your hard drive before use. You must have administrator privileges on your system to install and use WinUndelete.

  •  How to uninstall the program from my computer?

If you use the direct-use package, you may simply delete it from your disk without running an uninstall process. To uninstall WinUndelete, you can click Start > Settings on the Windows Taskbar. Click Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Locate WinUndelete in the list of currently installed programs and click the Add/Remove button.

  •  Can I recover files deleted from the Recycle Bin? Files removed from network shares? Files deleted in a DOS command window? Files removed from Windows Explorer with the SHIFT key held down?

Absolutely. WinUndelete can recover files in all of the situations mentioned previously if your files have not been overwritten.

  •  What file system does WinUndelete support?

It supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS, covering hard disks, floppy disks, zip disks, MO and JAZ disks, digital camera storage and digital media, external flash drives, and more. WinUndelete cannot recover deleted files from CD-R/W or DVD+/-R/W disks. If you need to recover deleted files from CD/DVD, you may try some removable media data recovery software - e.g. BadCopy Pro

  •  The WinUndelete scan takes a long time or finds lots of files. How do I speed up the scan or narrow the search?

You can speed up or narrow the search by using the initial scan wizard to specify only the file types that you are looking for. Also, if the files or folders you need to recover have appeared in the folder tree during scanning, you can click STOP and the software recovers any files that are already located.

  •   The preview windows said that a certain file could not be displayed. Can I still recover it?

This might indicate that other data has overwritten the file that you want.

  •  If I purchase a registration key, how long will it take to be sent to me?

When you purchase on-line using our secure e-commerce provider, the registration key is delivered to your e-mail immediately at the end of the purchase process.
